Romeo and Juliet
Projects for Romeo and Juliet
You will choose one of the following projects to complete to demonstrate your understanding of the play. Make sure to read and follow the rubric.
Option 1 - Time Capsule
Put a time capsule together. Gather or create at least seven items that symbolize the events of the play. Think of items that characters from the play may have added if they were burying the time capsule. On note cards, explain each item and its significance to the play; then write a quote from the play that correlates with that item (you should have a note card for each item). Decorate the capsule to appropriately represent the play - be creative.
Option 2 - Newspaper
Create an Elizabethan newspaper detailing the events of the play. Write at least five articles detailing what happens in the story, and put them together in journalistic format. Make sure the stories are accurate and error free - that includes neatness, spelling, and grammar. Be creative! Make it look old by dyeing the paper with coffee or tea; wrinkle or fray the edges. You can type it in Old English font or hand write it neatly. You must have at least five articles, pictures, and a masthead.
Option 3 - Quilt
Select and depict twelve scenes from the play for a multiple panel quilt. Make each panel out of paper. For each panel of the quilt, create an illustration and write a caption which includes the act, scene, and a quote. Create a border for each panel and tie or string the panels together to create a wall hanging. Acts and scenes must in order.
Option 4 - Book
Design a comic book or an illustrated children's book that tells the story of Romeo and Juliet. You may use the words of Shakespeare, or you may write and illustrate a more modern version of the play. The minimum number of pages for the book is 12.
